Founding:
Decio Toso, the son of Luigi Toso (co-founder of Ferro Toso & C.), together with Giuseppe d'Alpaos, Guglielmo Barbini and Gino Francesconi, all three of whom were formerly employed by Cristalleria Franchetti, founded (1923) Studio Ars et Labor Industrie Reunite [S. A. L. I. R.]. The firm has generally focused its activities on engraving and enamelling mirrors and other objects, first utilizing blanks produced by Ferro Toso & C. and later acquiring blanks from other producers as well.Developmental Events:
1927 Guido Balsamo Stella merged his small engraving workshop into the firm and was named the firm's Artistic Director. 1929 Guido Balsamo Stella left his position as Artistic Director to become head of the Academy of Applied Art at Villa Reale in Monza. 1932 Gino Francesconi left the firm. 1936 Guglielmo Barbini left to found an engraving workshop of his own. 1976 Mario d'Alpaos, son of Giuseppe d'Alpaos, and Luigi Toso, son of Decio Toso, assumed management of the firm.
